Meet Our Directors!

Adil Dhalla

Board Chair
I’m Adil Dhalla, or Dil for short.  I am a civic entrepreneur and community organizer who is driven to co-create new and inclusive economies. I’m the Executive Director of the Centre for Social Innovation (CSI), which is a not-for-profit organization that provides space, services and programs to +2000 social mission organizations annually. In addition to this role at CSI and my work with StopGap I am the co-founder and chair of Camp Reset, a not-for-profit and acclaimed summer camp for adults that is uniquely addressing issues around mental health and loneliness for adults through play and digital detoxing.

I was recently named a BALLE Fellow, which is awarded to local economy leaders who are creating the new economy, and I’m the first Muslim to ever receive the honour. Oh… and I really dig bow ties.

Sydney Blum

Vice Chair
My name is Sydney and I’m thrilled to bring my experience in non-profit strategy, scaling and fund development to StopGap as one of the board’s newest members. I learned about StopGap through word of mouth in my community and by engaging as a volunteer over the past year. Day-to-day I hold the position of Director of Community Impact at WoodGreen Community Services. In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature, studying mindfulness and cooking plant-based meals for the people I love.

Trevor Bardell

Treasurer
My name is Trevor and I have been a member of the the StopGap Board since 2015. I learned about StopGap through social media, and first became involved when my daughter Taylor (also a board member) began a community ramp project in our town. When I’m not volunteering for StopGap, you can find me on the soccer pitch, or in the operating room. StopGap Foundation is important to me because many of my patients cannot access all spaces in our community. At StopGap we’re working to change this.

Member
My name is Taylor Bardell and I am currently a fourth year Psychology student at Queen’s University. I first became involved in StopGap in high school when I created a ramp project for my hometown of Belleville, Ontario. It was a super fun and rewarding experience, so when Luke approached me about becoming a board member in the fall of 2015, I was thrilled! StopGap is great organization because it is a fun and simple idea that has this amazing potential to truly help people.

Russell Winkelaar

Member
Hello there access allies, my name is Russell Winkelaar. I describe myself differently every time I make an attempt at doing so. Mostly I enjoy being a disability awareness advocate, which I have done through the mediums of public speaking as well as acting. I have been a ramp aficionado for as long as I can recall. Physically my favourite ramp is located in the glass dome atop the Reichstag building in Berlin, Germany. As a concept though, StopGap ramps are by far the most amazing ramps out there! I first encountered a StopGap ramp back in early 2012 and helped in my couple of ramp builds in the summer of 2014. Now that I have finally made it to the inner circle, I am excited to bring as much energy and enthusiasm as I can to help promote StopGap and access for all. I can’t wait to see where this adventure goes!
