Volunteering

Three people paint StopGap ramps in a woodshop. There is one blue ramp and two yellow ramps.     Two of StopGap's board members paint small yellow ramps. They both are using wheelchairs.

Having many hands on deck is one of our keys to success. We’re always in need of volunteer support, from painting and delivering ramps to representing StopGap at events.

To start the process of volunteering with us, please read through our available volunteer opportunities and then fill out the form below!

Our core volunteer roles:

*Ramp Painting:
A hands-on role that takes place at 192 Spadina Ave in the TTLMakerspace on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Fridays between 9 am to 1 pm. Please note that the Makerspace is wheelchair accessible.

*Ramp Deliveries:
Help us get ramps to their new homes! We have two Delivery Zones that volunteers can sign up for. This role is ideal for someone with a vehicle who is comfortable driving around the city and lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.

*Event Support:
Great for people who love connecting with and building community. Help us out with various tasks at our annual Ramp Up fundraiser or tabling at events and festivals. You’ll also be helping to spread awareness about our mission and why accessibility is important to you.

Community Outreach:
Engage business and building owners about the benefits of having a more accessible location and provide information on what they can do to remove access barriers, including how to acquire a StopGap ramp. Volunteers complete this role on their own time with a focus on locations with eligible single-stepped entryways.

School Project Ambassador:
Educate elementary school groups about the importance of accessible and inclusive spaces. This role is for persons with a disability as a big component of this volunteer opportunity is sharing lived experiences with disability.

Leading a Community Ramp Project:
Lead a Community Ramp Project in your neighbourhood or town, helping us bring StopGap’s ramps and awareness-raising messages to communities across Canada.

Other skills you may want to volunteer:

Fundraising:
Drive our mission forward by planning, organizing, and executing fundraising initiatives to support our many programs.

Graphic Design and Illustration:
Create fun, colourful, and impactful graphics for our promotional materials, social media, and website.

IT and Web Design:
Help us update our website (run on WordPress) and support our technological needs to better serve our community. Bonus if you have expertise in digital accessibility and WCAG!

Photography and Videography:
Capture moments at StopGap events or create content for our social media and YouTube channels! Volunteers must have their own tech and equipment.

Social Media and Marketing:
Share your insight to help us amplify our mission, engage our community, and increase awareness through creative content and strategic campaigns.

Writing:
Help us with writing copy, grant applications, blog posts for our website, policy, and more.
